240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit is a route rule, not simply ten free days in China.

Eligible nationalities55 countries under current rules
Approved entry points65 ports across 24 regions
Maximum stayUp to 240 hours in permitted areas

Your Route Must Continue Somewhere New

A qualifying journey follows the logic Country or Region A → China → Country or Region B. A simple return to the place you arrived from does not meet the third-destination requirement.

RouteA → China → B

Your onward destination must be a third country or region.

TicketConfirmed departure

Carry proof of onward travel leaving within the permitted period.

StayInside the allowed area

Enter through an approved port and follow its geographic limits.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is included among the approved entry ports under the current policy.

Check Nationality

The 240-hour list is separate from China's ordinary visa-free country list. Do not assume one automatically means the other.

Check the Port

Your arrival and departure arrangements must use eligible ports and comply with the permitted stay area.

Check the Clock

The official stay period is calculated from 00:00 on the day after entry, but your confirmed departure must still fit the rule.

For a Chongqing Stopover

  • Arrival: use Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport as the qualifying entry port.
  • Documents: keep your valid passport and confirmed onward ticket ready for inspection.
  • Movement: remain within the permitted area confirmed by immigration authorities.
